Abinanti's real reason for opposing incorporation.

Abinanti's real reason for opposing incorporation.

Last night, Indivisible Rivertowns hosted a discussion led by Tom Abinanti, the State Assemblymember for the 92nd district covering the Town of Greenburgh and the Town of Mt. Pleasant.

Click here to watch a three-minute video of his Q&A on Edgemont.

In his remarks about Edgemont’s potential incorporation, Mr. Abinanti—a Greenburgh Town Councilman from 1980 to 84 and 1990 to 91—revealed some ugly Greenburgh history. Among other things, he said: “Take a good careful look and you’ll see there’s no affordable housing in one part of town – it’s all in another part of town…nobody tried to put in affordable housing on Central Avenue down in the Scarsdale post office. Nobody tried to put a community center in that part of town.”

We are troubled by our Assemblymember’s efforts to concentrate affordable housing outside of Edgemont and contribute to residential and school district segregation in Greenburgh. Abinanti believes his morally wrong "bargain" should be upheld by Edgemont, even today.
