URGENT: Last-minute effort to change the rules on incorporation. Please call 518-455-2585!

Dear Edgemont:

Last week we warned you that legislators in Albany were considering significant changes to the incorporation law, which they were planning to cram through in the closing days of the legislative session.  It has now happened.

A bill has been introduced that — just as we warned — creates a new requirement that a “fiscal study” be completed before an incorporation petition may go forward.  The bill does not explain what the “study” must contain.  But it allows objectors to protest the petition on the ground that the (undefined) “study” has not been completed.

As we warned, this change simply creates a new basis for Paul Feiner to prevent us from holding a vote.  No matter what study we cite, he will just declare it insufficient and force us to go to court.

Changing the rules like this in the middle of the game is entirely unfair.  Over a thousand Edgemont residents have already signed the petition to ask for an opportunity to vote.  Their rights should not be stripped away at the eleventh hour.

We need you to make a two-minute phone call immediately to voice your strong objection to our representative, Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins (Albany office 518-455-2585 and Yonkers office 914-423-4031).

Find two minutes between your appointments for your community–every phone call matters! Also, forward this email to your fellow Edgemonters to ensure we are heard.
