Town to Edgemont: Don’t Look Here, Look Over There

Town to Edgemont: Don’t Look Here, Look Over There

Happy new year, neighbors. Soon, we will hear from the Supreme Court of the State of New York as to whether it believes Paul Feiner’s decision to reject Edgemont’s second petition for incorporation was illegal, not supported by sufficient evidence, or was otherwise contrary to the weight of evidence.

In the meantime, the Town has offered what appears to be a preview of a new anti-incorporation tack: deflecting questions about Greenburgh’s own operations and finances by suggesting that Edgemont residents should first question our own institutions (i.e. our school and fire districts), specifically the salaries and benefits of the professionals serving our community. This whataboutism is a transparent sideshow.

We don’t appreciate the Town’s unsubtle implication that our institutions are not well-managed. To the contrary, the EIC believes our elected resident leaders, and their appointed professionals, have done an outstanding job over many decades shaping our kids’ education and our families’ safety.  And we value the fact that these leaders can only remain in office with the support of the Edgemont electorate.

Similarly, we believe a Village of Edgemont Board of Trustees would excel in planning and providing for our community’s future in an accountable manner. Shouldn’t important decisions about our land, and the investment of our tax dollars, rest with residents rather than a distant government over which we have a mere 8% voting influence?

We will report back as soon as the court rules.
