Paul Feiner is still fighting against Edgemont's right to a vote.

Paul Feiner is still fighting against Edgemont's right to a vote.

Dear Edgemont Neighbors:

We hope everyone is staying safe and healthy through this long and tough winter. While there’s lots going on in the world, we’re still working locally to preserve Edgemont’s right to vote on whether to incorporate as a village.

Here are some key updates:

APPELLATE COURT HEARING SCHEDULED FOR FEBRUARY SECOND. To refresh your memory, our community’s second petition for a vote on incorporation was rejected by Greenburgh Town Supervisor Paul Feiner. The EIC brought a petition in New York State Supreme Court to challenge that rejection. Last May, the court ruled in our favor, finding that the Supervisor’s rejection of our petition was illegal, unlawful, and contrary to the weight of evidence. The Supervisor appealed to the New York State Appellate Division (Second Department), which will hear oral arguments in just a few weeks, on February 2nd (click here to watch it).

MORE ANTI-INCORPORATION LEGISLATION. Since the EIC first began pursuing a vote on incorporation nearly five years ago, our State Assemblyman Tom Abinanti has, like clockwork, annually introduced anti-incorporation legislation aimed squarely at Edgemont. This year’s effort features a moratorium on all incorporations until July 1, 2023, pending a study. Most egregiously, it is retroactive, meaning that it would nullify the current Edgemont petition for a vote.

The Edgemont community has successfully made its voice heard every time our elected officials have attempted to use the legislative process to keep us from voting. We are hopeful this time will be no different, and will let you know when more action is needed.

Best,

The Edgemont Incorporation Committee
