Dear Edgemont Residents:
Happy Father’s Day!
Now that the legislative session is behind us and we didn’t have a surprise Father’s Day meeting, we have returned our focus to Edgemont’s third petition for incorporation. We’re updating the EIC website, bringing our financial projections up to date, and formulating a new area to be incorporated.
The new petition will provide a fresh set of boundaries, defined and certified by an outside engineer. The territory’s borders will include nearly the same population and area as that of the Greenville Fire District, but the precise territorial boundaries will be different from the fire district borders.
Further, the description of the boundaries will reference neither the Greenville Fire District nor the Edgemont School District (to ensure no confusion by anyone in a position of authority who reviews it).
Please note these important points:
Village incorporation has no effect whatsoever on school district residency status. In other words, if you live in the Edgemont School District now, you will remain in the district whether or not Edgemont becomes a village. School district borders have nothing to do with incorporation.
All homes that were within the territory described in the first and second incorporation petitions will also be within the territory described in the third petition. Accordingly, if you were qualified to sign the first or second petition for incorporation, you will remain qualified to sign the third one.
If you are not sure whether your property is in the proposed village, the website will have a feature allowing you to check. The territory described in the third petition will include several properties that were not within the territory described in the first and second petitions.
Lastly, don’t forget to vote in the upcoming Town Supervisor primary! The election is Tuesday.
In 2019, Edgemont came out to vote for Supervisor in full force. Let’s show strength at the polls again this year!
