Edgemont maintains its right to a vote; Senate Majority Leader arranges for a mediator

In the final days of the legislative session, Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins, who is also our own state senator, encouraged the EIC and the Town Supervisor to meet with a mediator to have an open discussion about the various issues surrounding incorporation, including (but not limited to) how Edgemont could work with the Town going forward if it does incorporate.

We appreciate Senator Stewart-Cousins’ leadership, and we look forward to a meeting with an open exchange of ideas. We have long sought such a discussion because we believe that intergovernmental cooperation between the Town and a Village of Edgemont will maintain Town jobs and revenue for the unincorporated area while ensuring service continuity for Edgemont. We take seriously any concerns the Town may have regarding the impact of incorporation that are supported by facts and data, and we look forward to a good-faith discussion.

Our goal, as always, is to gather information and present it to the Edgemont community so the electorate is as informed as possible about the potential costs and services of a new village. We will report back after the first meeting, which we expect to take place in the near future.
Simultaneously, we will work to ensure that any objections raised in regard to the second petition are sufficiently addressed, so that the Supervisor can make an unbiased decision at the hearing on July 16th. We hope that many of you will be able to come to watch the proceedings.
